The CBT allows 16 year
olds to ride a learner legal moped (up to 50cc) and if you are 17 or over it will allow you to ride a motorcycle up to
125cc (typically capable of 65mph).
The CBT is split into 5 elements, each one must be completed before moving on to the next.
Element
A. Eyesight test, overview of the day and a discussion about protective wear. Element B. Learning the controls
of the machine and going over daily and weekly checks. Element C. Learning to ride the bike. (safe off road area) Element D. Pre-road ride brief Element E. 2 hour road ride (minimum)
Once all the Elements have been completed to a satisfactory
level you will be issued with a DL196 CBT certificate. A CBT does not allow you to carry pillion passengers or ride on the motorway and you must display L Plates. To take the CBT you will need to have a valid UK
provisional licence or a full UK driving licence with provisional motorcycle entitlement (A).
Once you complete your CBT if you are going to be riding
a scooter regardless of its "CC" when booking choose 50cc.

If your going to ride a geared bike choose 125cc when booking.

Whilst Peter at SAFE4LIFE CBT section is governed by the
DSA I keep up and always follow their guidelines. As what they write is what we as instructors go by, its best you read what
they say.
A good book wrote by the DSA is "The official DSA guide to learning to ride" So for that reason the link below will open a new page. Direct to the DSAs website giving you
every last detail.
